Our Story

Our Mission

Beverage containers make up 44% of all litter in

Western Australia (by volume, 2017-18 National Litter Index), even though they are made from easily recyclable materials such as glass, plastic, aluminium and liquid paperboard (fruit boxes).

To help encourage more Western Australians to collect and return these containers, North West Recycling provides a 10-cent refund for each eligible container that is returned to designated refund points.

In South Australia, where a container deposit scheme has been in place since 1977, containers account for less than 3% of litter; much less than the 44% currently found in Western Australia.

North West Recycling also provides an exciting fundraising opportunity for schools, local sports clubs, community groups, charities and worthwhile causes - by putting money directly back into their pockets. The scheme will also remove millions of single use plastics from Western Australia.

Who we are

Co-owners Jake and Jodie

North West Recycling is a small family owned

business, established in 2020 to implement the Western

Australian government's 'Containers for Change'

scheme in Karratha, Wickham, Pannawonica and Onslow, including other surrounding towns and mining camps in between.

The 'Containers for Change' scheme is revolutionising recycling and waste management in WA and NWR is proud to be driving this change in the Pilbara region.

Owners Jake and Jodie have lived in Karratha since 2010 and have worked within both community and resource sectors during this time.

They have a good working knowledge of the location, the community and have sound working relationships with business owners in and around the region.

The family previously lived in SA, where recycling was built into everyday life growing up and they want the same for their children's generation and beyond.

Community Benefits

How we help

North West Recycling brings many community based benefits to the region.

North West Recycling is committed to developing flexible employment opportunities for local people with a focus on those who have been out of the workforce for a long time, as well as for people living with disabilities.

In addition, working with indigenous school based engagement programs and community service organisations, will create and promote employment opportunities available to local young people. It is the intention of North West Recycling to not only give young people employment, but also continue to build their knowledge and understanding of recycling, driving long term awareness and benefits to the community and environment.

North West Recycling provides recycling education sessions to community, linking in with other like minded organisations. We believe that by immersing ourselves in the local community and providing education sessions to schools in the area will build our local brand and understanding of recycling. If you are interested in having a chat at your school, community event or meeting, please contact Jodie jodie@nwrecycling.com.au

NWR promotes that recycling through Containers for Change is a positive way for money to go back into the community.

Corporate Benefits

How we benefit business

Why not reduce your waste removal costs and start making money by recycling!

With environmental concerns increasing among

Australians, there’s a good chance that

many employees want the ability to recycle at

work.

Instead of making those environmentally conscious individuals go out of their way to recycle, an in-house recycling program can make it easy for them by having designated bins and processes for recycling various containers at work. It might seem like a small thing, but along with all of the other potential benefits of recycling, increased employee morale can make a big difference overtime within a business.

Being environmentally conscious and supporting local recycling initiatives, allows the business community to build and foster better customer

relationships.  At North West Recycling, we believe that culture is the number one driver for a successful recycling program in any organisation. Promoting environmentally friendly methods can set a business apart from competitors and attract new customers who want to buy products and services from an environmentally responsible business.

Promotion of the recycling program can be done via the business website, in press materials or on social media.
